Iraq launches offensive to reclaim Mosul from Islamic State

The long-awaited battle to liberate the Iraqi city of Mosul from the Islamic State militant group is underway, but experts have warned the battle will not be quick or easy.
The Islamic State group have held onto Mosul for over two years, and according to Chatham House’s Renad Mansour, the battle marks an “existential” threat with regards to the militant group’s ability to maintain regional legitimacy.
