The conference of Canadian Catholic bishops in Ottawa urged to protect Christians in Iraq and ease asylum measures for those who want to seek refuge in Canada. In a letter to Prime Minister Steven Harbor, bishops stressed that Iraqi Christians are caught in an increasing violence spiral. They have called on the government to help absorb more Iraqi refugees and ease visa processing.
On the other hand, No. 2 U.S. commander in Iraq, Lt. Gen. Raymond Odierno, has been chosen to be the next Army vice chief of staff, replacing Gen. Richard Cody next summer, the Pentagon announced. It is to be noted that General Odierno has been the top day-to-day commander in Iraq under Gen. David Petraeus who in his turn will join NATO commandment in Belgium.
