A delegation representing the Assyrian Universal Alliance (AUA) and the Assyrian Australian National Federation visited The Honorable Chris Bowen MP at his office in Fairfield on Monday 27 July, 2009, to present him with the Man of the Year award.
The prestigious award is given annually to well-known individuals in the Assyrian and Non Assyrian community “male or female” as a recognition of their achievements in providing individual service to the Assyrian community.
The selection process of the AUA 26th world congress which took place from May 20 -24, 2009 in Sydney, Australia was made after a number of names were chosen by a special committee. Selection criteria include people who achieved excellence in community accomplishments, leadership and service.
Mr. Hermiz Shahen, the Deputy Secretary General of the Assyrian Universal Alliance presented the award to The Honorable Chris Bowen MP; Minister for Financial Services, Superannuation and Corporate Law, whose selection was for his substantial contribution, advice and support to the Assyrian Universal Alliance, and for his extensive efforts in conveying the needs of the Assyrians to the federal government and for his outstanding efforts to the success of the AUA 26th World Congress.
The delegation included Mr. David David , President of the Assyrian Australian National Federation, Mr. Paul Azzo, AUA advisor on governmental affairs, Mr. Romel Badal, AUA legal Advisor, also present during the presentation was Councilor Anwar Khoshaba OAM, Deputy Mayor of Fairfield City.
