Syrian bishop: Aleppo a ‘disfigured and exhausted city’

CWN –
The Chaldean Catholic bishop of Aleppo told the Fides news agency that the city, Syria’s largest, is “disfigured and exhausted.”

“One can see the suffering in the eyes of its inhabitants,” said Bishop Antoine Audo. “They have been living in this state of continuous war attrition for almost three years. There is no work, everyone is impoverished.”

Recently, he continued, “we do not understand who is fighting whom. There is the government army, and then there are the Kurdish brigades, Islamists, gangs of outlaws, those who call themselves [the] ‘Free Syrian Army,’ all factions fighting each other.”

Bishop Audo added that jihadist attacks on a power plant could lead to “catastrophic” consequences.
