ARCH. LOUIS SAKO
Chaldean Catholic Patriarch of Babylon
“We need your prayers because it is a difficult time for me. I still feel a bit odd with all this red clothing.”

BENEDICT XVI
“The Lord invokes upon you the Holy Spirit. We are all with you in prayer.”

The Pope also greeted the participants in the Synod of the Chaldean Church, a mini conclave celebrated in Rome to choose their new patriarch. Several of the interactions with the bishops were very emotional.

“We need your prayer and your blessing for all Iranians. Especially for my diocese”

“Thank you for all you do for Syria, your Holiness.”

BENEDICT XVI
“Everything I can do, I cannot do much, but all that is possible.”

“Above all, your visit to Lebanon, you have talked about Syria, of peace and of reconciliation.”

BENEDICT XVI
“We will pray a lot.”

After the traditional family photo, the Pope gave the new patriarch a golden cross and a rosary as a gift, to help him in his mission. Afterward, the bishops of the Chaldean Catholic Church sang for the Pope.

Following their gathering with Benedict XVI, the prelates met with the Vatican’s Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, who gave them as a gift a silver relief of the Virgin Mary with the apostles.
