On April 21, at the Palace of Auburn Hills, the Farmington Hills-based Chaldean American Ladies of Charity (CALC) will participate in the What’s Cooking Expo featuring Cake Boss Buddy Valastro.

The event takes place from 12 to 7 p.m.

A group of women volunteers, CALC has organized bingo for seniors living in Southfield, worked with teenagers as part of their Dreams Mentoring Program and young women in their Chaldean Angles of Charity program. Many of the youth are Iraqi refugees adapting to life in America. Also, a group of volunteers from the CALC meets regularly to raise funds for the organization and organize events and programs. Weekly, the CALC helps families by providing food assistance to hungry families and basic needs assistance.

Every year, the CALC helps thousands of Chaldean families in Metro Detroit, which reduces the need for families to stay on government assisted programs.

CALC is always seeking out new volunteers and financial assistance to help with their mission.

“The needs far outweigh the resources we have today,” Jane Shallal, executive director, said. “We are always reaching out to the community for additional help and funding. Events like the expo on Saturday help us bring awareness and raise money for needy families.”
