Cr Stone, who is the Opposition spokeswoman on immigration and citizenship, was presented with a letter about issues in the Assyrian community by members of the alliance in Wetherill Park.

The letter discussed problems for Assyrians in Iraq, including sectarian violence, systematic abuse by Islamic extremists and the growing refugee crisis.

The alliance members asked the Australian Government to provide more humanitarian assistance to the Assyrian refugees and to help establish an autonomous Assyrian region in northern Iraq where Assyrians can administer themselves.

An alliance spokesman said the meeting went well and hoped that it would achieve a positive outcome for Assyrians in Iraq.
