 San Jose,
On December 14 and 15, 2010 the Assyrian Universal Alliance, as a member of the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization, participated in the third session of the United Nations Forum on minority issues in Geneva, Switzerland.
Ms. Jennifer Babaie, the Assyrian Universal Alliance representative, presented the interest of Assyrians during the two-day session focusing on effective participation in economic life by minority populations. In her speech on the floor of the UN General Assembly, Ms. Babaie discussed the centuries long discrimination against the Assyrian people with particular emphasis on the recent and ongoing attacks against Assyrian Christians in Iraq. She provided policy solutions for the survival of the indigenous population, including the formation of an autonomous region in the Nineveh Plains under the jurisdiction of the central government of Iraq.
