Assyrians deplore terror attack in Iran

Younathan Betkolia, the Secretary General of the Assyrian Universal Alliance and the representative of Assyrians in the Iranian Parliament (Majlis)The Assyrian Universal Alliance has strongly condemned a recent terrorist attack in the southeastern Iranian city of Chabahar that killed dozens of people.

In a statement signed by Younathan Betkolia, the secretary general of the alliance who is also the representative of Assyrians in the Iranian Parliament (Majlis), the alliance condemned the attack in the strongest terms.

It described the deadly attack as “brutal” and a “black stain” on history.

The statement sympathized with Iranian Muslims and extended condolences to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and Iranian officials.

At least 37 mourners commemorating the anniversary of the martyrdom of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (PBUH), were killed and more than 90 others wounded in a terrorist attack in Chabahar in the Sistan-Baluchestan province on December 15.

The Pakistan-based terrorist group Jundallah has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, also condemned the attack in a statement and offered condolences to the Iranian government, people and the bereaved families.

This comes as Sunni local people of Chabahar and clerics rallied on Saturday, condemning the deadly attack as an organized act aimed at creating a rift between Sunnis and Shias.

Iran’s special security forces have arrested nine terrorists in connection with the deadly attack.

One of the terrorists was arrested on the border with Pakistan as he was trying to flee the Iranian territory.

Iran’s Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar said that perpetrators behind the terrorist attack have been trained and equipped by foreign elements beyond the country’s eastern borders in Pakistan
