Assyrian world community is concerned about ceasefire violations by the Azerbaijani side vsledstvii vozobnovileniya offensive military action in the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.
This occurs in the centenary since the massacres suffered by the Armenians, Assyrians and Pontic Greeks in the Ottoman Empire.
Today, the Republic of Turkey continues its aggressive policy and directly involved in the outbreak of civil war in neighboring Syria, which directly affected the fate of tens of thousands of Assyrians and the resumption of hostilities in Nagorno Karabakh. It also skillfully manipulated with the European Union in an artificially created crisis of refugees, thereby supporting the extremists and terrorists in Iraq and Syria.
We condemn the treacherous violation of ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh resulted in casualties, including among the civilian population.
Artsakh – Nagorno Karabakh Republic with its capital city of Stepanakert, a historically Armenian territory, which serves as proof of more than 500 Armenian churches, churches and other historical monuments testifying to the more than 4,000-year history of the Armenian presence in this land.
Through conducted December 10, 1991 referendum, the absolute majority of the inhabitants of Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast voted for independence, which is not surprising, since the vast majority of the autonomous region, were the representatives of Armenian origin, whose land illegally incorporated into Azerbaijan in the years of Soviet power.
The ceasefire agreement was reached after the victory of the Armenian side in May 1994. Nevertheless, 20 years later – the agreement does not lead to a peaceful settlement of the conflict. Despite the talks, which were held under the supervision of “Minsk Group”, which included the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), with the participation of countries mediators in the negotiation process in Russia, USA and France, Baku and Yerevan have not been able to come to agreement on a comprehensive settlement of the situation around the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
After the signing of the ceasefire agreement, several agreements were signed under the auspices of the Minsk Group, one of the last in November 2008, where Armenia and Azerbaijan undertook to exclusively “peaceful settlement” of the conflict, but the military rhetoric and fighting between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces, and the time is permanently renewed, which in itself delayed the peace process.
In 2012, for a period of 5 years President of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was re-elected Bako Sahakyan. Hope for a peaceful life and the completion of the peace process was broken into overnight on the night of 2nd April 2016, the Azerbaijani side with the support of “the new Ottoman Empire,” which makes no secret of his political ambitions and successfully use the Azerbaijani factor in the discharge of the overall situation in the region , especially given the close relationship of the Turks and Azerbaijanis in culturally and linguistically.
We call on the parties and the international community to stop the war, end the gross interference and Turkish provocations in the internal affairs of neighboring countries, in order to resolve the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan in a peaceful and diplomatic means, taking into account respect for the will of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh to self-determination.
