Hundreds Pay Respects To Slain Auto Shop Owner

Joe Abou Shot At His Point Loma Auto Shop Last Monday
EL CAJON, Calif. — Friends and family of a slain auto repair shop owner paid their respects at his wake on Monday.

Hundreds gathered in an El Cajon church to pay their respects to Joe Abou. Abou was found shot to death outside his Point Loma auto repair shop last week.

More than 300 people from the Chaldean community attended the mass as Abou’s son, Christ Abou, spoke to the group”He’s with my sister Angela, he’s with his parents and now he’s looking down on us all and protecting us all,” he said.

Christ Abou did not want to be interviewed this time, but did allow 10News to put a microphone on him during his speech to his fallen father, which quickly brought the audience to tears.

“Father, you will always be in our hearts,” he said. “You’re a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle. God rest your soul. I love you.”

A couple hours before his speech, Christ was joined his mother and two sisters as they knelt by Abou’s open casket.

It was the first time the family had seen Abou since before he was fatally shot outside his auto repair shop.

“I don’t know why this person did this… I hope they catch him and put him in jail for the rest of his life,” a cousin told 10News.

Abou will be laid to rest Tuesday and his funeral will be held Tuesday at St. Peter Chaldean Catholic Church at 10 a.m.
