SOLEMNISATION OF THE NSW STATE PARLIAMENT’S RECOGNITION OF THE ASSYRIAN GENOCIDE

At the conclusion of Sunday prayers on the 5th of May, 2013, that were held at many Assyrian churches in memory of our Martyrs, a large crowd gathered on the grounds of the Assyrian Genocide Memorial erected in Bonnyrigg Park, Bonnyrigg, to lay wreaths and pay respect to the Assyrian Martyrs.

The Assyrian community in Australia solemnised the unanimous recognition by the State Parliament of NSW of the Assyrian genocide during WW1 perpetrated by Ottoman Turkey.

Rev. Father Narsai Yokhanis from the Assyrian Church of the East started with a prayer dedicated to those that lost their lives, followed by a short speech in memory of the Assyrian Martyrs. He acknowledged the hard work of the Assyrian Universal Alliance in Australia in pursuing this important issue.

Speakers included Mr Hermiz Shahen, Deputy Secretary General of the Assyrian Universal Alliance , Mr David David , Regional Secretary of Australian & New Zealand of the Assyrian Universal Alliance Mrs Carmen Lazar, People of Australia Ambassador and Mr Simon Essavian , President of the Assyrian Charity & Educational Community.
