According to the statement of the member of Kurdistan Parliament for the Chaldean Assyrian Syriac component, it’s happening now that Representative of the components in Kurdistan regional Parliament are boycotting the voting session to choose the members of Board for the Supreme Electoral and Referendum Commission in Kurdistan. This is because of the imposing of a trusteeship beyond the control of the components in selecting their candidates in the Board.
The member of Kurdistan Regional Parliament for the component of Mesopotamia Sons, Saroud Makdessi, confirmed in direct contact with the site of Ankawa.com the boycott by the components representatives in the parliament (Chaldean Assyrian Syriac, Armenian and Turkmen). 11 members boycott the parliament session held this morning (Wednesday) and still continuing till the moment of preparing this report. The session was allocated to vote for the board members of the supreme commission for election and referendum in Kurdistan Region. The boycott came because the large parliament blocs did not take into consideration the rights of the small components in selecting their candidates.
Makdessi indicated that the act of the supreme election and referendum commission in Kurdistan Region provide the right to represent the components in the supreme council. The narrow view of the 5 Kurdistan Parties (Kurdistan Democratic Party, National Union of Kurdistan, Movement for Change, Kurdistan Islamic Union and The Islamic Community) prevented the achievement of the components rights. This happened because they distributed the 9 seats allocated to the board of commissioners among themselves and nominate a representative of Chaldean Assyrian Syriac from the party of National Union of Kurdistan, who called Nehru from the town of Koysanjaq. Also, they nominate another person from Kurdistan Democratic Party to represent Turkmen, away from the will of Turkmen representatives in the parliament to select their candidate.
Makdessi considered that, not taking into account the curriculum vitae of the proposed candidates by the components to choose among them who will take the position of the components representatives in the commissioners board, frowned the 11 parliamentarians and their categorical rejection of what he described as imposing the trusteeship and preventing the free will of the components.
Makdessi pointed out to the continuation of the meeting inside the parliament despite the boycott by the components representatives and despite the existence of a proposal to stop conducting the meeting for one hour in order to negotiate with the components representative to return to the meeting. This does not happen till now because they boycott the session and left the hall immediately.
Makdessi reduced the importance of the parliament vote for the members of board of the supreme commission for election and referendum in Kurdistan in terms of its impact on their decision to boycott the today parliament session and the coming sessions. This is due to the fact that their decision is crucial and will not return until reconsideration of this matter takes place. Makdessi added, this is because a representative of the components in the commission election board is considered as an important gain for them. The membership in this board is very important in the coming election stations in order to limit passing the external agendas that try to take over the free will of the voters.
It should be mentioned that the representation of components in Kurdistan Regional Parliament had announced earlier last week, that they strongly reject what they called marginalization their real representation in the supreme commission for election and referendum in the Region. They demanded from the Regional President, Massoud Barazani, not to accept the names submitted to him. They called for reconsideration of the candidates and to ensure real representation in the board of commissioners.
