Film tells the story about a little-known, great battle of Poles in Iraqi Karbala in April 2004. It was the largest battle in which Polish soldiers participated since the end of World War II. During the Muslim holiday Ashura erupted uprising against the stabilization forces. „City Hall” in Karbala – headquarters of legal Iraqi authorities and Police, was aim of particularly vicious attacks. For four days and nights 80 Polish-Iraqi crew of “City Hall” on starvation rations, and after shoot almost all of ammunition, derived out all assaults of terrorist, before receiving the relief.
The Office of Representative of Kurdistan Regional Government to Poland provided whatever assistance in making the film- organized film crew stay in Kurdistan, during which they have made visits to various parts of Erbil and its surroundings, and have become sure that located in Kurdistan shooting locations would contribute to the attractiveness and realism of the visual side of the project. Mr Ziyad Raoof was also present on the filmset. The film crew will set off to Kurdistan again in September or October to shoot scenes of desert, because due to the difficult currently situation prevailing in Iraq, terrain photoes of film will be shoot in Iraqi Kurdistan, not in Karbala.
It is important that such large film projects are implemented in region of Kurdistan. Help of Kurdish site in realisation of film project may be a good start for cooperation between Polish and Kurdish filmmakers and an opportunity for mutual exchange of information about both nations and countries.
