Humanitarian aid from Malopolska Region reached Kurdistan

pic 1Polish people, in cooperation with the Office of the Representative of Kurdistan Regional Government to Poland, do not cease efforts to organize another humanitarian convoys with aid for refugees in Kurdistan. On Tuesday, 9th December convoy from Poland arrived to Duhok. It was set off from Poland on 1st December. Convoy consisted of two trucks tightly filled with humanitarian aid: 678 mattresses, 473 boxes with warm clothes, 2200 blankets, 250 beds for children. On site during the collection of transport was present Head of Foundation SOS For Life Fr. Thomas Jegierski. As usual, Barzani Foundation is supporting SOS For Life in allocation of aid from Poland.

Most of the gifts were purchased with support from the Marshal Office of the Malopolska Region (Malopolska Region is the partner region of Kurdistan). Office of the Representative of Kurdistan Regional Government to Poland as well as Foundation SOS For Life also engaged in aid for the refugees. Organization of transport was preceded by an intensive media campaign conducted by KRG Representative to Poland with the support of the Polish media, especially daily newspaper “Rzeczpospolita”.

It is worth pointing out that the convoy was packed by the voluntary and free assistance of Polish armed forces. Office of the KRG Representative also helped to find a transportation company that drove to the Kurdistan two fully filled trucks at a price much lower than the market price.

pic 2This is another round of humanitarian aid which arrived to Kurdistan from Poland. Previous convoys arrived in August and November to Erbil by plane. Office of the Representative of Kurdistan Regional Government to Poland as well as Polish humanitarian organizations will continue its efforts so as to organize another aid convoys. Ziyad Raoof and Fr. Tomasz Jegierski are conducting intensive media campaign with the aim of making Polish people realize huge scale of humanitarian crisis and continue talks with representatives of Polish state, regional and church authorities.
