Hallelujah! The Pope could be about to join Instagram

Power to the papal.
His Twitter flock has reached a whopping 8.87 million, and now Pope Francis is apparently ready to spread good tidings on Instagram.
Italian news wire ANSA claims to have heard from papal spokesperson Dario Vigano that his holiness will set up his account on March 19 under the user name of Franciscus.

The pontiff’s move towards Instagram comes as little surprise, considering he met with the service’s founder Kevin Systrom earlier this year to discuss the power of imagery.

So what kind of Instagram content can we expect from the Pope? If his Twitter account is anything to go by, it probably won’t be selfies.

There’s a video message on there for Iraqi Christians and a plea to pray for children affected by war, both of which were probably posted on his behalf.

With a boatload of Twitter followers and his own emoji, if the leader of the Catholic Church becomes any more tech savvy, he’ll have to start his own social network. He won’t be able to call it Papal, for obvious reasons.
