The bishops from the three Christian churches represented in Iraq informed Steinmeier about their situation in the country. They reported as well that the situation of Christians in Iraq has drastically worsened five years ago while affirming that pressure on them is increasing which is leading them to immigrate. The bishops asked the German government to ensure the legal status of Iraqi Christian migrants in Germany and ease ways to reunite families.
According to a spokesman from the Foreign Ministry, the Foreign Ministry had donated around four million euros this year towards humanitarian aid for Christian refugees in Iraq and neighboring countries.
