Chaldean Community Foundation plans expansion in Sterling Heights

The Chaldean Community Foundation has announced plans for a new housing and retail development in Sterling Heights, in addition to expanding its current community center.
According to, the Foundation is making plans to begin construction on a $30 million mixed use development in 2018 and nearly triple the size of its community center, located on 15 Mile Road and Ryan.

Crains indicates the foundation is under contract to purchase vacant property in the Van Dyke Riverland District, a redevelopment district that extends from north of 18 1/2 Mile Road to the city border at M-59. It expects to close on the purchase early next year and break ground by the summer.

The housing and retail development is expected to include street-level retail and 200 family apartments on the upper floor. The site is designed to fulfill much-needed long-term housing for the more than 1,100 Chaldean families in the area living in crowded conditions, representatives from the CCF told Crain’s.

The foundation plans to launch a $3.5 million expansion of its Sterling Heights community center in the spring. It will take the 11,500-square-foot center to 29,500 square feet.
