Detroit — Jordan’s ambassador to the U.S. is expected to be on hand next month for a Detroit event honoring community, business and political leaders.
Ambassador Alia Bouran is scheduled to attend the Arab American and Chaldean Council’s annual Civic and Humanitarian Awards Gala Oct. 10 at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center.

Awardees include Michigan Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof and House Democratic Leader Tim Griemel.

Also being honored for her humanitarian work is pharmacist Nidhal Garmo. She founded One World Medical Mission to help people in poverty or needing medical care because of war.

The Shinola Co. is receiving a Community Leadership Award and two other business leaders are getting humanitarian or community service awards.

The council is a nonprofit social services organization serving southeastern Michigan.
