Chaldean Catholic Bishop of Aleppo: Syria Has Always Been an Example of Conviviality(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) – Chaldean Catholic Bishop of Aleppo Monsignor Antoine Audo affirmed that Syria has always been an example of conviviality, and that western media must be more careful and discerning when dealing with the Syrian issue.

In statements to the Vatican news service Agenzia Fides, Audo said that Syria has always been an example of conviviality and today must find its peaceful face of Arab, Christian and Muslim land, adding “Urgency for us is national reconciliation. The situation is serious, it is necessary to re-establish dialogue.”

Commenting on Pope Benedict XVI’s appeal for peace in Syria, which was made on the occasion of the R.O.A.C.O. (Assembly of the Reunion Of Aid Agencies for the Oriental Churches) which is convened in Rome, Audo said that the Pope’s appeal is very interesting and moving.

“His words reflect a deep desire for peace. The Pope used the verb ‘persevere’: for us it means not to be afraid of difficulties and to try with determination ways of peace,” he said, adding “We demand an end to violence and we pray for peace. We trust in the help of the Holy See so that at an international level we can promote peace in Syria.”

In a similar interview with I.MEDIA, a news agency specializing in Vatican affairs, Audo criticized the western media’s analysis of the events in Syria, saying that western media keeps talking about the so-called Arab Spring while the situation is more complicated, which calls for being more discerning, more careful and more just.

He also defended the Vatican’s well-informed approach regarding Syria, affirming that the Vatican has never acted in a manner similar to western media.
