RECAP: WEEKEND SWEDISH ACTION

John Kretlow – Tuesday, August 16, 2011
Rangers bound Alejandro Bedoya and Örebro came out on top, while a trio of Yanks never saw the field in weekend Swedish action.

Örebro SK 2-0 Djurgardens IF

Two first half goals were enough to get the win for Alejandro Bedoya and Örebro SK.

The scoring started in the 24th minute when Örebro’s Paulo de Oliveira pounced on a rebound and roofed home a shot, leaving Djurgardens’ Dembo Tourray no chance. Just moments later, Örebro doubled the lead when Violence Rama made an impressive run and shot from the edge of the box, beating Tourray to his right.

Rama and Joseph Ibrahim were booked for Örebro, while Johan Oremo and Christer Youssef were cautioned for Djurgardens.

Örebro are now just four points from the last Europa League playoff spot and have won four games in a row. Djurgardens is out of the relegation zone by just goal differential.

Bedoya and Örebro will take on Mjällby next week and Djurgardens will play Malmö FF.

Ljungskile SK 3-1 GIF Sundsvall

Both Nick Noble and Michael Thomas helped Ljungskile SK take down GIF Sundsvall over the weekend in Superettan action. The two Americans started and went the distance.

Johan Patriksson opened the scoring in the tenth minute unassisted, giving Ljungskile SK the early lead.

There was no further scoring until the second half though, when Gabriel Vanneryr rippled the net off of a Johan Patriksson pass in the 50th minute. Just minutes later Alexander Mellqvist fired home from a Vanneryr pass, putting the game away for Ljungskile.
Ari Skulason was able to get one back for Sundsvall in stoppage time, but it was too late for them.

Mellqvist received a yellow card for Ljungskile while Christian Brink was booked for Sundsvall.

The American duo and Ljungskile will take on Landskrona BoIS next week. Sundsvall will play Vasteras SK.

Ängelholms FF 3-1 Qviding FIF

Matt Pyzdrowski and Ängelholms FF beat Qviding FIF in weekend Superettan play. The American started and went the distance in goal for Ängelholms.

Martin Andersen opened the scoring in the 13th minute for Ängelholms, while Antonio Rojas scored from a Michael Cassidy pass in the 20th minute to double their lead.

Early in the second half Isa Bagci knocked one back for Qviding, but Tobias Johansson’s goal for Ängelholms gave them the insurmountable lead in the 82nd minute.

Ängelholms will play Degerfors IF next week while Qviding will take on Hammarby
