Assyrian language shares similarities with Hebrew

The Assyrian language shares many similarities with Hebrew. Modern Hebrew preserves many similar Assyrian (Aramaic) words and phrases.

A comprehensive interview was conducted with Dr. Hezi Mutzafi in which he discusses the relationship between the three Semitic languages Aramaic (Assyrian), Hebrew and Arabic.

Dr Mutzafi is a lecturer in the Department of Hebrew and Semitic Languages at the University of Tel Aviv. He has completed expansive and vast research in language, literature, history and the culture of the Assyrians around the world.

Dr Mutzafi demonstrates his knowledge and bilingual abilities in an interview recorded at SBS during his last visit to Australia, in which he speaks fluent Assyrian.
