Saad Khatib and Mohamad Khatib opened Bouba. A new Lebanese restaurant in Erbil in the northern district of Kurdistan, Iraq has been quietly gaining momentum since opening in January.

Bouba is the brainchild of hotelier and restaurateur Saad Khatib and his entrepreneur brother Mohamad, together known as the Khatib Bros.

The pair launched the restaurant following a six month renovation of a property in Ankawa, which has been kitted out in chestnut wood and ivory leather and decorated with a selection of travel memoriabilia.

Mohamed Khatib said: “Looking back, BouBa’s conception comes not as a sudden career development for us but rather as a natural next step after many years of taking great pleasure in hosting and indulging our personal and professional guests’ every possible whim’’.

The menu features authentic Lebanese shawarma and falafel, home-made burgers, a variety of cold and hot mezza and a rich daily Lebanese and international special, followed by freshly baked desserts, Italian coffee, a selection of teas and freshly squeezed juices.

“We have imported key ingredients from our home country, flown in our star chefs from around the globe and strive to continuously provide impeccable service with the true spirit of Lebanese hospitality while applying the highest hygienic standards,” said Saad Khatib.

Bouba has acquired a varied portfolio of returning clientele, which started from the owners’ entourage and friends and has grown as “word of mouth spread through Erbil’s social circles,” he added.
