Rally in support of Iraqi Assyrians to be held in San Francisco, California

supporttheassyriansofiraq.jpgNation-wide rallies will be held in support of the Assyrian Christians, the indigenous people of Iraq, who recently have found themselves facing yet another increase in violence deliberately aimed at their churches in their native land of Iraq.

Immediate attention to the current situation of the indigenous Assyrian Christians is being urged from the United Nations along with human rights organizations, religious rights groups, and political organizations throughout the world.

The support rally will exhibit a unified stance for protection of the Assyrian Christian minority and their churches from further persecution and destruction.

The recent bombings of seven churches in Baghdad and Mosul have come at a time when U.S. withdrawal plans continue to move forward and as Iraqi security forces begin to assume full control of Iraq’s cities and towns under the Status of Forces Agreement. It is essential to protect Iraq’s defenseless ethno-religious minorities, namely the Assyrians, from deliberate targeting and persecution.

The support rally will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the United Nations Plaza located at 1150 Market Street, San Francisco, California.
