ASSYRIAN UNIVERSAL ALLIANCE 26TH WORLD CONGRESS SELECTS ASSYRIAN
WOMAN AND MAN OF THE YEAR.
Sydney – 5th June, 2009
The prestigious award is given annually to well-known individuals in the Assyrian and Non Assyrian community” male or female” as a recognition of their achievements in providing individual service to the Assyrian community
The selection process of the AUA 26th world congress was made after a number of names were chosen by a special committee. Selection criteria include people who achieved excellence in community accomplishments, leadership and service.
Rosie Malik-Yonan was named as the “2009 Assyrian Woman of the Year” In recognition of her substantial contribution to advance the Assyrian national cause in promoting international recognition of the Assyrian Genocide and for her extensive efforts in conveying the needs of the Assyrians to the United States government.

Mr. Sarkis Aghajan was selected Man of the year in recognition for his substantial contribution and determination in supporting the rights of the indigenous Assyrians in Iraq and providing exceptional services for the Iraqi Christians.

The Honorable Chris Bowen MP; Assistant Treasurer; Minister for Competition Policy and Consumer Affairs, was selected “the Non Assyrian man of the year” For his substantial contribution, advice and support of the Assyrian Universal Alliance, and for his extensive efforts in conveying the needs of the Assyrians to the federal government and for his outstanding efforts to the success of the AUA 26th World Congress.
Assyrian Youth of the Year selected was Dr. Anobel Odisho, for years of devotion and voluntary work to the Assyrian community, and displaying outstanding determination and dedication in helping the Assyrian Refugees in Syria and elsewhere.
Mr. Shimshon Mirza was selected as the honorary member of AUA, being one its founding members who continues his pledge and support to the aims and principles of this great organization.
During last year’s congress in Sweden, the late Senator John Nimrod was selected as The Assyrian Man of the Year and an honorary member of Executive Board and Ms. Lina Yakobova was voted as Assyrian Woman of the Year.
