Christian Lobby Welcomes Increased Aid for Refugees

The Australian Christian Lobby (ACL) has welcomed the Federal Government’s decision to double to $12.8 million Australia’s humanitarian aid to refugees fleeing wars and persecution in places such as Iraq and Afghanistan.

ACL Managing Director Jim Wallace said Christians make up a disproportionately high number of the refugees who have left or are fleeing Iraq, as well as being the target of heavy persecution in many other parts of the world.
“Hundreds of thousands of Iraqi Christians have been forced out of their communities in the face of unrelenting violence and the continual threat of persecution,” Mr Wallace said.

“They are targeted specifically because of their faith and face severe difficulties with little assistance.

“I hope that these often overlooked people, as well as Christian refugees from other parts of the world, will be well-represented in those who benefit from the Government’s increased aid.”
