Mr. Shahen spoke about the Assyrian Universal Alliance activities in Australia in the past year raising many appeals to the Australian government and international organizations on behalf of the Assyrian Nation. “The objectives of such efforts have been to advance the Assyrian cause internationally, on the humanitarian as well as the political front, seeking support of democratic governments and international bodies, in defending our indigenous rights, and our highly prized national identity, culture, heritage, language and religion and to accord autonomous status (self-governed region) to the Assyrians on the land of our ancestors in the north of Iraq. What strengthens our spirit of perseverance to face the future challenges, is the existence of friends to our nation who stand with us in support of our national rights and demands. We extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to you. With your continued support, I am confident we will achieve much more in the future” Mr Shahen said.
All speakers praised in their speeches the role of the Assyrian Universal Alliance in its continued deliberations and meetings with the Australian government.
