YOUTH GOLF: Free clinic for kids

If you suspect your child might have the swing of Tiger Woods or you just want to get him or her hooked on golf, bring your little one to the Grosse Ile Golf & Country Club on Monday.

As part of the 19th annual Budd Lynch Celebrity Golf Classic, the club will offer a free golf clinic. The clinic runs 9:30-10:30 a.m. and will teach kids proper golfing technique and give them a chance to win prizes. Stopping by will be Paws, mascot for the Detroit Tigers, and Ken Kal, play-by-play commentator for the Detroit Red Wings.

All children must be accompanied by an adult and should try to bring their own clubs, though demonstration clubs will be available. The Golf Classic starts at 12:15 p.m. (with lunch at 11 a.m.). Participation costs $250 per person, with proceeds going to the Guidance Center, a nonprofit mental health organization. The Grosse Ile Golf & Country Club is at 9339 Bellevue in Grosse Ile.
