Local members of the Assyrian, Chaldean and Syriac communities are calling upon concerned citizens of all civilized beliefs in Turlock and Modesto to join in a worldwide protest against the violence that has engulfed their native homelands and cultural beliefs.

On Aug. 2 at 10 a.m., San Francisco at 1 Market St. will be one of the dozens locations worldwide people with gather to protest the violence against Christians in Iraq and Syria.

A detailed, informative meeting and Q&A session will be held this Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Assyrian American Athletic Club, 1420 Mitchell Rd., Ceres.
“Christianity has been in the Middle East for 6,000 years and the modern day Mosul in Iraq is the same ‘Nineveh’ mentioned in the bible — those people are the same people as modern day Assyrians,” said Turlock and Modesto spokesperson Arbella Rasho.

“We are protesting ISIS (The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) and their relentless attacks upon Mosul. ISIS is blowing up churches that are thousand of years old.”

Rasho said protests will take place across the globe in Australia, Europe, Canada, the Middle East and in numerous cities in the United States.
