The Chaldean American Chamber of Commerce’s Waad Murad Advocacy Fund announced Wednesday it has pledged $10,000 toward solving the case of a fatal shooting of a Clinton Township convenience store owner.

Basim Sulaka, 51, of Sterling Heights was shot to death on March 28 during a robbery at his convenience store, the Moon Lite Party Store on Harper north of 14 Mile.

“Our hearts are heavy for the loss of a great family and businessman,” said Martin Manna, commerce president, in a press release. “Sulaka was a valued member of the Chaldean community, and we hope the reward will bring the killers to justice and prevent the senseless acts of violence that occur far too often.”

Crime Stoppers of Michigan is offering an additional $2,500 reward.

Police are still looking for three men suspected in the shooting.

The Waad Murad Advocacy supplies reward money for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the those who commit violent crimes against business people.

The fund is named in memory of Waad Murad, a founding member of the chamber of commerce based in Southfield. Murad was murdered at his business on March 17, 2005.

According to the chamber of commerce, nearly 150 Chaldean Americans have been killed at their place of business since the 1970s in Metro Detroit
