Bombings in Kirkuk rattle Iraqi Christians

A terrorist bombing in Kirkuk, Iraq, shook the Chaldean Catholic cathedral in which the prefect of the Vatican’s Congregation for Eastern Churches was celebrating Mass on December 16.

Nine people were killed in a series of coordinated car-bombings that were aimed at two Shi’ite mosques. The Catholic cathedral was not a target of the attacks, but the reverberations from the explosions rattled worshippers, in a city where Christians have frequently been the targets of Islamic extremists.
