Syria cease-fire is dead: Renewed violence claims at least 150 lives

Damascus : Syria
Syrian rebels run to take position in the Bustan al-Basha district in the northern city of Aleppo on October 26, 2012 .AFP A car bomb exploded on Saturday in front of a Syriac church in Syria’s eastern city of Deir Ezzor, killing at least five people and wounding dozens, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported, adding the bomb also caused huge damage to the church.

SANA news said armed terrorist groups on Saturday blew up a car bomb in front of the Syriac Church on the main road in the city of Deir Ezzor. No casualties were reported, but the explosion caused great material damage to the Church.

It is worth mentioning that the area where the explosion occurred is under the control of the Syrian regime. There is no room for the Free Syrian Army to pass therein due to the intensity of the security presence in the area, knowing that this area is mostly populated by Christians.

Meanwhile, the clashes and attacks took place in Damascus province, Aleppo, Daraa and in the city of Deir Ezzor.

AFP news reported an air strike targeted a building in the town of Irbin, killing at least eight men.

A journalist in Damascus said warplanes were flying over the capital, but there were no reports of air strikes, the Associated Press reported.

Earlier on Saturday, clashes between Free Syrian fighters and the Syrian branch of Kurdistan Workers (PKK) fighters in Aleppo’s Ashrafiyeh neighborhood was reported, SANA news said, adding 30 people were killed.

However, the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants are fighting with the forces of the Assad regime against the Free Syrian Army. This is because the Syrian regime supports them so as to carry out attacks on Turkey.

SOHR said 146 people were killed in bombings, artillery fire and fighting on Friday: 53 were civilians, 50 were Free Syrian Army fighters and 43 were regime forces.

In related news, despite Hezbollah’s denial, Britain’s Independent newspaper reported Friday that HezbollahHezbollah has increased its military assistance to the Syrian regime in the recent days. According to the report, opposition sources said that thousands of Hezbollah activists have been dispatched to Syria to fight against the Free Syrian Army.

Opinion:

I guess that the international community is now sure that the regime of Assad must be dealt with more vigorously than the Gadhafi regime, but unfortunately for now Moscow is still supporting the regime of Bashar, no matter what he says or what he does.

Perhaps the statement of Russia’s deputy foreign minister Gennady Gatilov, in which he blamed terrorists for a car bomb attack in Damscus that killed at least eight people, indicates that this man is unaware that the area where the explosion occurred is 100 percet controlled by Assad’s forces. Civilians were targeted therein and not militants.

The blast, which happened today in the area of Deir Ezzor, targeted Christian citizens, and the reason is the imminent arrival of FBI team to investigate killing of the Lebanese Intelligence Chief, who was killed in a Christian area of ??Beirut. Moreover, the Syrian regime wants to tell the international community that the explosion of the Christian areas in Beirut and in Syria were carried out by al-Qaida.

As for Hezbollah, the equation says that the fall of the regime means the fall of Hezbollah, because it will be hard for Hezboallah to receive the Iranian support either in money or weapons, whereas Syria was the broker between them. Therefore Hezbollah is ready to pay any price for the survival of Assad’s regime.

My own sources confirm 100 percent what was issued in Britain’s Independent newspaper. Obviously there are Iraqi Mahdi militia, who are estimated to be more than 2,000, all present in the border areas between Syria and Iraq. I know from my sources that they are protecting the border and fighting against the Free Syrian Army.

I think that after the US elections, Syria will be treated differently other than the sanctions imposed by Obama’s administration and the Western countries on the Syrian regime. If these sanctions succeeded in Tehran, then they have failed in Syria. Perhaps what happened during Eid confirms that force is the only language to deal with this criminal regime.
