Iraqi archbishop reaches out to Muslims in bid for inter-religious peace

An Iraqi prelate is hosting a meeting of Christian and Muslim leaders, aimed at “building bridges of peace” among different religious groups.

Archbishop Louis Sako, the Chaldean Catholic Archbishop of Kirkuk, brought together representatives of the Shi’ite and Sunni Muslim communities, Christian clerics, political officials, and ethnic leaders in a bid to ease tensions in the city. Archbishop Sako has pleaded with Christians to remain in Iraq, despite a campaign of violence and intimidation against them. The Chaldean prelate has insisted that the Christian presence is vital to the establishment of real peace in Iraq.
