Iraqi Christian kidnapped as intimidation campaign continues

An Iraqi Christian businessman was abducted outside his office in Kirkuk on July 29, in the latest of a series of targeted attacks on the country’s religious minority.

Yonan Daniel Mammo, a Chaldean Catholic, was seized by a group of armed men. His family had not yet heard from his abductors. Kirkuk’s Chaldean Archbishop Louis Sako has appealed to local civic leaders for help in securing his release.

Archbishop Sako has frequently implored the government to provide adequate protection for Christians. An organized campaign of intimidation has prompted many Christian families to flee Kirkuk.
