STATE DEPARTMENT DEPUTY COMING TO DETROIT METRO AREA FOR MEETING WITH IRAQI REFUGEE COMMUNITY, RESETTLEMENT AGENCIES

The State Department has asked us to inform you that on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, Mr. Michael Corbin, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near East Affairs, is scheduled to hold a public meeting with members of the Iraqi refugee community to address issues facing minority communities in Iraq, in countries of first asylum, and in the U.S.

He will be joined by Mr. Lawrence Bartlett, Deputy Director of the Office of Refugee Admissions, Bureau of Population, Refugee, and Migration. Both men were recently in Iraq and other countries in the region and have said they will report on those visits and on State Department efforts to address the needs of Iraq’s minorities and displaced populations.
