SOUTHFIELD: Chaldean Americans plan free festival

The Chaldean American Chamber of Commerce will host the second annual Chaldean Festival on Aug. 4-5 on Southfield’s Civic Center lawn along Evergreen.

The free festival will be from noon to 10 p.m. both days.

The festival will include a variety of food vendors; a merchants row with vendors; free health screenings; a dunk tank, and play areas and attractions for children.

All proceeds benefit the Chaldean Chamber Foundation, a nonprofit that advances the needs of the Chaldean-American community through advocacy, education and charitable giving.

TAYLOR: Mental illness seminar planned at hospital

The Michigan chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness and Oakwood Heritage Hospital will present a free seminar — Mental Illness 101: Families in Action.

The seminar is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 4 at the hospital, 10000 Telegraph Road in Taylor.

This seminar is for parents, professionals, caregivers or anyone who wants to learn and understand more about mental illness.

The discussion will cover community resources, signs and symptoms of mental illness and the effects on family members.

NORTHVILLE: Victorian Festival to include a parade

A bygone era will be revived during downtown Northville’s 19th annual Victorian Festival from Sept. 14-16.

Hours will be 5-11 p.m. Sept. 14, 10 a.m.-11 p.m. Sept. 15 and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 16.

Visitors can wear period clothing, shop, participate in old-time games and take part in other activities. A parade is set for Sept. 14.
