Researcher seeks Arab American and Chaldean participants for study

Dearborn – A research study is underway that seeks to examine the intergenerational socioeconomic mobility of Arab Americans and Chaldean Americans in Southeast Michigan.

Bridget Smith-Botos, a graduate student researcher in the Department of Sociology at the University of Alabama-Birmingham is looking for participants for this study. The research will examine how the socioeconomic circumstances of children and grandchildren of Arab and Chaldean immigrants have changed over time. Researchers hope to widen understanding of Arab and Chaldean American communities and create a body of research that will be submitted to an academic journal. Participants will also have the opportunity to take part in a family history podcast in addition to the research study. Interviews will be conducted in and around Dearborn and will continue through the end of May. Participants must be the child or grandchild of an immigrant, be between 25 and 60-years-old and self-identify as Arab or Chaldean American. Upcoming interviews will be held at Henry Ford College on May 13 and May 20 from 3:30-6:30pm. Participants will receive a $5 gift card to a local coffee shop for their participation in the study.
