Christmas celebrated across the Kurdistan Region and Iraq

On Christmas Eve, Christians, Muslims, Yazidis and Zoroastrians celebrated Christmas in churches across the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
For Christians in Mosul, it was the first time they were able to celebrate the holiday in their city in four years, after it was taken over by ISIS in 2014 and liberated earlier this year.

People in Mosul gathered at Saint Paul’s church, the only functioning church left in Mosul, for midnight mass on Sunday night.

Patriarch Louis Raphael Sako of Iraq’s Chaldean Catholic Church called on people to pray for “peace and stability in Mosul, Iraq and the world,” as reported by AFP.
