Regional Faith Leaders Calling For Protection of Refugees
Regional faith leaders are calling for the protection of Assyrian Christians and Yezidis facing death threats from terrorists, the leaders said Friday.

Leaders from the Interfaith Council of Contra Costa County, Marin Interfaith Council and other centers said the unidentified terrorists are making threats by calling the refugees on their cellphones, the leaders said.

Yezidis are getting messages like this one: “We know who you are! We know where you are! We’re going to finish Ramadan, celebrate Eid al Fitr and then we’re coming after you and all the Yezidis.”

The leaders said Assyrian Christians are getting similar calls. But the terrorists are going one step further and threatening a Christian’s family members who live elsewhere.

The faith leaders said last year different Yezidis and Christians received death threats. Afterwards, ISIL forced more than 200,000 Assyrian Christians from their homes and more than 420,000 Yezidis from their homes.

Among the two groups, 11,000 to 12,000 were killed, the leaders said.

Local faith leaders are asking how the terrorists got the cellphone numbers and are calling on world leaders to protect the two groups.
