Patriarch Aphrem II Welcomes EU Parliament Resolution Statement Issued by the Syrian Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch

His Holiness Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, Syrian Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, welcomes the efforts of members of the European Parliament to pass a resolution concerning the protection of indigenous minorities in the Middle East.
During his meetings with the European Parliament President, Mr. Martin Schulz, the President of the European People’s Party, Mr. Joseph Daul, the Chairman of the EP Committee of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Elmar Brok, and other members of the European Parliament, His Holiness stressed the importance of providing international protection for the Syriacs/Chaldeans/ Assyrians and other communities, such as the Yazidis in the Nineveh Plain in Iraq.
He, likewise, emphasized the necessity to channel European Union assistance and relief efforts through the local historical churches in Syria and Iraq.
